How glorious will it be when the parents and their children share the same alma mater? Reliving the same old school days through your children is not an experience you would get often. Meet Shalu Arora who expresses her joy while sharing that her kids, Pearl Arora and Daivik Arora, studying in class IX and VI respectively at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, Jalandhar are still around the same teachers who taught her too.

 Excerpts from the interview

How did you select Apeejay as an admission choice?

Both my kids love sports and I hope that they become professional sports players. Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg has an amazing lawn tennis court. I am an Apeejay pass-out as well. I studied in this school for XI and XII and it was an unbelievable experience for me. I still admire the teachers and senior staff at the school and have wonderful fond memories.

How are the teachers?

I am very satisfied with the teachers at this school, especially the mid-school and senior staff. They are super-efficient. They are expert at grooming my kids holistically. All the teachers are available on WhatsApp and calls and they respond to my queries as soon as possible. So far I have not faced any problem with regards to communication with them.

Any special techniques that the teachers use at school?

I would like to mention a few Hindi teachers who use one extremely motivating strategy to make their students learn the concepts better. After teaching every chapter, the teacher takes a test and then divides the class strength into three categories — excellent, average, and need improvement on the blackboard. Then she would start putting the names of the students under each category, this helped the kids to better their performance in Hindi so that each one could make it to the excellent category. This kind of reinforcement goes a long way in helping children elevate their learning curve.

What kind of positive impact did the school have on your children?

When it comes to positivity, Apeejay is one school that has a great academic structure and sports facilities including extra-curricular activities. The school organises so many activities which keep my children happily busy and then when they come back, they will share everything about their day excitedly. The overall experience at this school is extraordinary.

The high point of the school.

I want to bring to your notice that the principal takes a personal interest in every student of the school. She is particular about keeping track of the need for specific textbooks and notebooks. Moreover, she even talks to students on a one-on-one basis. Her dedication and sincerity in this matter is commendable.

What about the balance between extracurricular activities and studies?

It is remarkable. Usually during the annual day preparations, the students along with teachers are so busy that their studies often take a backseat during this period. But once the event is over, all teachers plan the execution part of the syllabus so well that the students don’t feel burdened by the same.

How well do you agree with the adage: School is the second home for your child?

This school is a second home to my children. Both my children are avidly into lawn tennis so the school has provided them that ideal platform to grow and master the sport. The sports head at the school, Sandeep sir has helped them hone their skills so well.
