Dhruv Pandit, a spirited class 5 student of Apeejay Svran Global School, Faridabad, recently emerged triumphant at the All India Karate Championship held in New Delhi, securing a gold medal in Kata and a silver medal in Kumite. Fresh off this impressive feat, Dhruv graciously shares his journey, passion, and aspirations with Apeejay Newsroom in an exclusive interview. Read edited excerpts:

Congratulations on your remarkable achievement, Dhruv! Could you tell us a bit about yourself and how your journey in Karate began?

Thank you! I’m currently in class 5, and my interest in Karate sparked from a desire for self-defence. I began my Karate journey with the Shotokan Martial Art Federation Of India, with the unwavering support of my school teachers encouraging me to grow, improve my health, and practice diligently.

Can you share with us your experience and the events you competed in?

In the championship, I clinched a gold medal in Kata, where we perform sequences according to our belt level, and a silver medal in Kumite, the sparring discipline. It was a challenging yet fulfilling experience.

How do you manage academics and Karate training?

I wake up at 6:30 am, freshen up, and have breakfast before catching the bus to school at 7:20 am. After school, I head home, rest, and then attend my Karate class at 6 pm. I devote time to studies after returning from the class, ensuring a balance between academics and training.

Impressive dedication! What’s next on your Karate journey?

I’m eagerly preparing for the International Karate Championship in Kathmandu, Nepal, scheduled for June. It’s an exciting opportunity to test my skills on an international stage.

What motivates you to excel in Karate?

My motivation stems from a desire to pursue Karate professionally, especially since it’s now included in the Olympic Games. Additionally, icons like Jackie Chan inspire me with their dedication and skill.

Reflecting on your achievements, what do you envision for your future in Karate?
Karate isn’t just a passion for me; it’s a professional path I intend to pursue wholeheartedly. My goal is to continue honing my skills, competing at higher levels, and inspiring others with my journey.
