Supreme Court upholds NEET-UG 2024 results

The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the final results of the NEET-UG medical entrance exam on Friday. The announcement followed a Supreme Court directive regarding a physics question with two correct answers, which the NTA had initially marked. A senior NTA official confirmed that the re-revised scorecards are now live.
Initially, 44 out of the 67 candidates declared as toppers had scored full marks due to the marks awarded for the contentious physics question. However, this number was later reduced to 61, as the agency withdrew grace marks given to six candidates to compensate for time lost at certain exam centres.
The Supreme Court’s recent verdict dismissed pleas for the cancellation and re-test of NEET-UG 2024, ruling that there was no substantial evidence to suggest a “systemic breach” in the exam’s integrity. This decision was a significant relief for the National Testing Agency and the NDA government, which had been facing severe criticism and protests over alleged large-scale malpractices such as question paper leaks, fraud, and impersonation in the exam held on May 5.
Despite the controversies, the Supreme Court’s ruling has upheld the validity of the NEET-UG 2024 results, allowing the admissions process for MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in government and private institutions to proceed.
