Mrs. Nikita Gupta is the mother of Myra Gupta, class 1 student at Apeejay School International, South Delhi. Her daughter has won six certificates in extra-curricular activities during the online classes.  In a wide ranging interview, the happy mother highlights how teachers at the school focus on explaining difficult concepts using examples as well as constantly working towards the personal development of each student. Edited excerpts:

Why did you choose Apeejay School International, South Delhi for Myra’s admission?

I was very impressed with Shalini ma’am when Myra was giving her interview in this school. She is a remarkable teacher. The faculty at the school is just excellent. In fact, during the online classes, Anamta ma’am has done a fantastic job as a teacher to engage the students in various activities. Myra participated in numerous activities during this online time. There were so many inter-school competitions, and I was very impressed to see how the school encouraged every student to participate in different activities. When the school reopened, Charu ma’am again engaged the kids in a lot of activities. Myra has learnt lots of things in the last couple of months. So, I am very happy that Myra is participating in activities, building her confidence and interacting with her peers. As a result, she is now interacting more with her family members as well.

How has Myra’s progress at the school been?

Myra is doing very well at school. Charu ma’am calls her the Math Master. I really want her to participate in the Math Olympiad at the school. She enjoys studying phonic sounds among her subjects and loves to play in the school playground. She enjoys art and craft activities as well.

Are the teachers engaging well with the students?

They are teaching in a very nice manner. The teachers listen to each student’s queries or concerns. Moreover, they plan the classroom sessions really well and focus a lot on explaining the concepts using examples to the students. Charu ma’am always ensures that a child understands a concept well. I have never got a chance to personally meet Shalini ma’am but I have seen how she always explains concepts to Myra and clears her doubts.  I hope that the teachers keep up with this spirit. I teach my daughter daily for an hour but I want my daughter to also clearly understand what the teacher teaches in the class.

What is the best thing about the school?

The curriculum – the smart learning that the school provides. It is not about filling notebooks. It is about intelligently helping the students to grasp the concepts. That is the approach at the school.

What are your expectations from the IB (International Baccalaureate) board in the school?

The way the school teachers are teaching right now, I want them to keep this spirit up. Myra is in her formative age, so I want the teachers to always clear each student’s concepts like this. I want that the school also keeps up its spirit of extracurricular activities now in the physical mode as well. The inter-school competitions and in-house activities boost the confidence of the students.

How has the experience of the online classes been for Myra?

She never missed a class unless she was not ill. I am very happy with her progress in the online classes. It’s because her teachers were very good. The child only sits to study when the facilitators are good. Myra won six certificates during the pandemic-induced online classes. That speaks for itself.

Now that the school has reopened, is Myra happy to be back at school?

Yes, she is delighted to be back at school. She was eagerly waiting for the school to reopen. She missed her teachers a lot.
