Plastic waste remains one of the most visible environmental concerns in urban spaces, especially when polybags and other discarded items enter drains, open areas, and landfill sites. To help students understand this concern through direct participation, Apeejay School, Sector 15, Faridabad, organised a plastic collection drive focused on the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. The activity was conducted under the guidance of Eco Savera.
The drive encouraged students and teachers to collect plastic waste from their homes and bring it to school. The items included milk packets, bottles, plastic tiffins, polybags, and other plastic materials.
Understanding the 3Rs
The central message of the activity was clear. Reducing plastic use begins with small choices, such as carrying a cloth bag instead of depending on polybags. These habits may seem ordinary, but they help cut waste at the source.
The idea of reuse was also highlighted during the drive. Polybags and plastic containers, when used carefully more than once, reduce the need for fresh plastic items. This teaches children that waste management is not only about disposal.
Recycling formed the third part of the learning. Collected plastic can be processed and turned into new products. This helps save raw materials and energy while also keeping plastic away from drains, open spaces, and landfill sites.
Learning through participation
Students participated with enthusiasm and contributed to the collection in large numbers. A significant quantity of polybags and plastic waste was gathered during the drive. The activity helped them connect classroom lessons on environmental care with a practical task they could see and understand.
The drive became more than a one-day activity. It encouraged young learners to think about cleaner choices at home, in school, and in the larger community.
Such initiatives help build eco-conscious habits early. They remind students that everyone can contribute to a cleaner and greener Faridabad.
