Following the teachings of the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev Ji — ‘Vand Chako,’ ‘Naam Japo’ and ‘Kirat Karo’– Apeejay School, Model Town, Jalandhar and Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld, Model Town commemorated the birth anniversary of the guru by reciting his teachings and prayers on November 19.

To seek his blessings, Apeejay School, Model Town hosted the Sukhmani Sahib Paath, a prayer of peace, within the school premises by inviting sevadaars from a nearby Gurudwara. The prayer meet was attended by the staff, students and the parents of the school, as it taught everyone about the sayings and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, a saint who propagated ethical values and justice against evil practices prevalent in Indian society during the 15th century.

The divine recital of the paath was followed by singing hymns to remember the guru that made the atmosphere calm, serene and tranquil. Students of the school relished the ‘Karah Prasad’, the offering made to the guru, at the end of the ceremony. The school’s Principal, Ms. Sinia Sajith addressed the gathering to encourage students to learn from the life of the guru.

Students of Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld visited the local Gurdwara Sahib at GTB Nagar along with their parents, and school staff members. The pre-primary and primary school students learnt about Guru Nanak Dev Ji. After their visit, the school organised a ‘langar’, in which children sat in rows and were taught the importance of equality and the values of sharing with each other.

“These celebrations bring the students closer to each other’s traditions and cultural beliefs and develop respect and understanding for each other’s customs and traditions.”

-Ms. Sinia Sajith, Principal, Apeejay School, Model Town
