Please tell us about yourself.

I am a class 11 (Science) student at Apeejay School, Nerul in Navi Mumbai. I will describe myself as a confident and outgoing person. I enjoy spending time with people and trying new things. I love to read and dance too. My priorities in life are my friends, family and future. Besides, I consider myself to be a compassionate and kind person.

Reading and writing are some of my hobbies. My favourite genre is psychological thrillers and romantic novels. I started writing two years ago. And since that time, I have a deep appreciation about how authors think and bring out all the ideas onto a piece of paper.

IsThe Fantasy Land’ your first story?

No. In fact, I have had many failed attempts at it prior to this. But I kept writing and improving it as much as I could. The story is inspired from my life as I often imagine myself to be a character in a narrative. In ‘The Fantasy Land’, I relate to the boy who is reading the book. Like him, I too get invested in my reading quite often.

What is your writing process?

I started writing a few short stories in class 8. At that time, I realised that I have to work on it a lot to build a proper narrative. So, I began to read more and research more on how to write an engaging story. Eventually, I polished ‘The Fantasy Land’ and submitted my entry for the class magazine in the school. It took me around 10 days to write it. I had it reviewed by my mother and friends and their valuable feedback helped me do better.

A book you strongly recommend?

‘The Harry Potter’ Novel Series transformed me into a reader. My father always encouraged me to read more and that’s how I developed the habit. At present, I will say ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’ – Novel by Holly Jackson is a must read. It will keep you at the edge of the seat. It is quite unpredictable and its characters are very relatable.

Share some writing tips for others.

Read more. Only when you read, you will write. Also, try to read different kinds of books. Practice writing consistently and seek feedback from readers on your draft.
