He is, at present, studying in Class IX at Apeejay School, Saket. He’s deeply interested in technology and enjoys creating small projects in his spare time. He loves experimenting with gadgets, exploring how things work, and finding simple solutions through innovation. Meet Vedant Mehta, who received the prestigious Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values for the academic year 2025-26.

In an impromptu interview, he shares how moral values help build a better society.

Name a project you’ve created recently.

One of my favourite projects was a weather metre I made with Arduino. It was exciting to build something that could measure and display temperature and humidity levels. Working on it taught me the importance of patience, focus, and continuous learning.

Who or what has been your most significant inspiration in understanding human values?

My parents have always been my biggest inspiration. They’ve guided me to stay kind, respectful, and grounded regardless of what I achieve. They constantly remind me that success means nothing if you forget humility and compassion.

How do you think moral values help build a better society?

Moral values are the foundation of a strong and peaceful society. Values like honesty, respect, and empathy bring people together and encourage us to care for one another.

An instance where you felt you made a difference in someone’s life.

Every year, I donate my books after my exams. It’s a small gesture, but I feel it helps someone who might not be able to afford new books.

How do you plan to uphold these values once you leave school?

The key is to stay around good people and mentors who inspire positive thinking. When we surround ourselves with people who share our values, it becomes easier to stay disciplined and true to what we believe in. I would like to volunteer for community work, help juniors with academics, and continue donating resources to those in need.

What values have you learnt at school?

My school has taught me teamwork, discipline, respect, and responsibility. Through daily activities and projects, I’ve learnt how to cooperate with others and appreciate everyone’s efforts.

One aspect of Dr Stya Paul that truly inspires you is…

His dedication and determination inspire me the most. Despite being a person with a disability from a very young age, he never gave up. He built a meaningful life through hard work and resilience.
