IB education fosters international-mindedness and critical thinking, empowering students to become lifelong learners. In a candid interview, Arisha Gudwani, a recent PYP-5 graduate from Apeejay’s IB School, Apeejay School International, Panchsheel Park, reflects on her enriching journey through the PYP years. From discovering a passion for basketball to building a futuristic AI city for the exhibition, Arisha shares her growth in balancing academics with extracurriculars and developing key learner profiles.

With gratitude for her mentors, friends, and family, she offers valuable advice to future students and expresses her excitement as she prepares to step into the MYP phase.

Define your journey at this school.

My journey at this school has been enjoyable and enriching so far. I’ve had fun while learning and growing every day.

Which learner profile do you think you have developed the most?

Balance. Balancing studies with extracurricular activities was a challenge at first, as I used to focus on just one. But with constant support from my mentors and parents, I’ve learned to manage both effectively.

What sport do you enjoy playing?

I enjoy playing basketball the most. I started learning it at school, and it has quickly become one of my favourite sports. It’s not only fun but also helps me stay active and build teamwork skills.

Which attribute do you think you would like to explore more?

Open mind. I’m learning to keep an open mind by interacting with more people and listening to their ideas. I’m making a conscious effort to be more receptive and adaptable.

What was your topic for the exhibition, and your learning takeaway from it?

For our exhibition project, I worked in a group to create a futuristic AI city, which helped me discover more about my interests and preferences. I learned how to research better, focus on quality over quantity, and collaborate effectively with my peers. With the support of my mentors, teachers, and parents, the experience became a great opportunity for personal growth.

What advice would you think you would give to a future PYP student?

I realised that the exhibition isn’t as hard as it may seem. If you’re not someone who enjoys writing a lot, you can still research and print your work, but it’s also important to develop the habit of writing gradually. It helps in expressing your ideas better and supporting others who may feel the same.

Your favourite memory from PYP.

I enjoyed working with my friends, especially during poster-making activities. I’ve loved my PYP journey and can’t wait to step into MYP— I’m truly excited for what’s ahead!
