Shipra Malhotra, a former school teacher, enrolled her son Dhruv in nursery last year at Apeejay School, Saket. Apprehensive initially about how he would adjust, the mother was relieved to see how the teachers made her son feel comfortable in class. She tells us about her experience in an interview:

What kind of a school were you looking for and why did you finally pick Apeejay for your Dhruv?

We wanted a school that could promote my child’s overall development. I wanted to give my son equal exposure to scholastic and non-scholastic activities. And Apeejay School, Saket, turned out to be an apt choice for it. I looked up some reviews online and researched before seeking admission to the school.

The only issue we faced initially was the long distance between school and home. But Apeejay solved the problem by providing the best transport service for my child.

What were the initial days of school like? Was Dhruv able to adjust quickly?

Due to COVID-19, my child had no exposure to the world outside and had not developed the required social skills before going to school. So, he took some time to adjust. But now, he loves going to school and it is all because of his teachers. They supported him and involved him in all kinds of activities which helped him open up. He has also made friends now.

Apart from the teachers, even the management is very helpful and friendly. And together, they helped us become a part of the Apeejay family.

Are the teachers accessible?

Apart from parent-teacher meetings, the teachers are available to address our concerns at all times. There is some sort of mutual understanding between the parents and the teachers.

What techniques are teachers using in the class to teach pre-primary children?

The methods used in class are very effective. Instead of the traditional way of learning the alphabet, teachers introduced the kids to phonics to make them familiar with the sound of each letter. This is helping them now in learning spelling. Besides, they also practise activity-based learning in class.

Is Dhruv able to grasp it all? What developments are you seeing in him?

He is grasping most of it and is taking a lot of interest in learning. As for his other developments, I have noticed a significant change in his demeanour. His social skills have improved, and he is now able to speak to everybody with confidence. He also participated in the school’s annual day programme recently, where he was awarded for his efforts.
