Subhal Kumar, whose son Advik Soni is studying in kindergarten at Apeejay International School, Greater Noida, is very happy with the latter’s all-round progress since he joined the school in nursery last year. The father, who is the Manager (Administration), NRO, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, Northern Region Office, Delhi, talks about the qualities that Advik has picked up in his two years of school. Edited excerpts:

What made you choose Apeejay International School, Greater Noida? How has the experience been?

We are quite satisfied with the teaching and curriculum at Apeejay. We are happy to see our child progress. At my workplace, I have some colleagues who send their children to Apeejay School, Noida. But the school at Greater Noida was close to our house, so we opted for it. Besides, Apeejay is a brand name and we thought it would be best for our son.

Advik has only seen his teachers and classmates in a virtual classroom. Does he like the classes?

This was the first time that teachers were conducting classes on Zoom. But they did a great job in making my son sit in front of the screen for 30 minutes, which is a challenge in itself. They kept my son busy, which was much needed. The methods that teachers for online classes have adopted are very interactive.

How has the school impacted your son’s development since he joined?

Advik is not only learning a lot, but he is also enjoying his classes very much. He actively participates in all class activities. His social skills have improved. He has also developed the habit of reading, be it story books or a newspaper, and I am amazed to see that. Teachers focus on students’ all-round development, beyond what is there in textbooks. That is very good.

In the case of young kids like Advik, parents also need to be involved in the online classes. Tell us how you coordinate with the schoolteacher.

We always disturb the class teacher beyond school hours (laughs), after my wife and I get home from work. She explains everything in detail, from things that have been taught to the homework and forthcoming activities.
