Are you finding it difficult to put down your creative thoughts in English? Good writing skills are essential in order to express your ideas correctly. Not to mention the importance of syntax and correct grammar for perfect articulation. However, the process of improving one’s writing abilities takes time, patience, and consistent work.

Shagun Bagga, an English teacher at Apeejay School, Faridabad Sector 15, recommends the following strategies to enhance your writing skills:

Read frequently

Reading is an essential habit to develop for improving your writing abilities. A regular reading routine allows you to comprehend sentence structure, tone, and flow, as well as the vocabulary and syntax employed. This, in turn, will aid in the development of strong writing skills.

Write frequently

Practice is a must when it comes to developing one’s writing skills. Be it an article, a blog post, a diary, or a journal, you can practise in any of the formats to enhance your writing style. Regular practice also helps one to become more comfortable with the writing process.

Jot down points before creating the final draft

It is common for people to encounter writer’s block when they attempt to sit down and start writing without proper planning. Jotting down the essential points beforehand is a smart strategy to avoid this issue. These points help organise your thoughts and modify the structure of your composition.

Proofreading and editing

Proofreading and editing are two vital components of the writing process. After writing the initial draft, re-reading your work helps you spot any lexical or syntactical mistakes. You can also focus on the clarity of your expressions, the brevity of your text, and the ease of understanding various ideas in your write-up. This is critical to ensuring that your final product is flawless.

Get feedback

Taking proper feedback on your written work is critical for improving your writing methodology. Positive and formative criticism from your teacher or your classmates will result in the improvement of your writing methodology.
