Yes, Math is scary for many, but for those who love it, it is scary to go even a day without practicing it. And Apeejay Institute of Management and Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC), Jalandhar, is full of such Math magicians. Recently, the entire campus got together to celebrate the International Day of Mathematics also known as ‘Pi Day’.

To commemorate the occasion, a poster-making competition was organised for all students. The topic for the event was also very innovative, ‘Mathematics for everyone’. The competition was open to all students of the institute and aimed at promoting an all-inclusive approach to the discipline.

Through this event, the faculty hoped to encourage students to explore the role of mathematics in their daily lives and also help them showcase their creativity by designing a poster, demonstrating the beauty of mathematics in the world around us.

Dr. Rajesh Bagga, Director of AIMETC, was very pleased with the vision behind the event. He expressed his joy saying, “It is great that we received participation from students across all courses. It was amazing to see how students were able to use their creativity to showcase the different ways in which Math is present in our lives and also influences us directly or indirectly. From the patterns in nature to the algorithms in technology, one is surprised to see that Math surrounds us everywhere.”

The competition received an overwhelming response as students enthusiastically submitted their posters depicting myriad Math themes. The entries were judged by a panel of experts on the parameters of creativity, originality, and the ability to convey the message of the competition.

For the competition, the first position was bagged jointly by Neha and Rahul of semester IV from Bachelors of Computer Application (BCA). Rishita and Viraj from BCA semester II secured the second prize, while the third position was won by Jessica Rana from MBA semester II.

The competition was a great success and the institute looks forward to organising similar events that promote the importance of Math in one’s daily lives.
