India has launched AIRAWAT, an advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) research platform designed to boost the country’s capabilities in AI and supercomputing. Installed at the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) in Pune, the platform features a peak processing power of 13,170 teraflops, securing a spot on the prestigious top 500 Global Supercomputing List. This achievement positions India as a global leader in AI-driven innovation.

Part of India’s National Program on AI (NPAI), AIRAWAT aims to support research, innovation, and knowledge dissemination across academia, industry, and government. The platform’s dual mission aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘AI for All’, focusing on enhancing AI technology for socio-economic upliftment and national self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

With a powerful AI computing infrastructure capable of scaling up to 790 petaflops, the platform is set to drive cutting-edge advancements in fields like natural language processing, image and video analytics, healthcare, agriculture, education, and national security.

It is designed to foster collaboration between India’s Technology Innovation Hubs, academic institutes, and government research labs, fueling innovation tailored to the country’s unique needs.

As a key enabler of AI research, the platform demonstrates India’s commitment to becoming a global AI powerhouse, providing critical infrastructure for both domestic and international AI-driven collaborations. The system’s scalability and interconnectivity are poised to drive India’s growth on the world stage, advancing AI for national prosperity and global competitiveness.
