Krishna who is currently studying at Apeejay Institute of Design, New Delhi has always had a strong interest in creativity and visual communication. The budding designer used to observe billboards, advertisements, and designs around him, which made him curious about how they are created so effectively. “I was especially fascinated by how designs connect with people emotionally, as even a simple visual or message can create a strong impact.” Over time, for Krishna, this curiosity turned into a passion for design, and he wanted to learn the process behind creating such visuals. That is why he chose graphic design as his field of study, with the aim of developing my creative skills and effectively communicating ideas through design. Read edited excerpts:
What made you choose Apeejay Institute of Design? How are the teachers shaping your skills?

I chose Apeejay Institute of Design because of its strong reputation in the field of design education. I was impressed by its practical approach and focus on real-world learning, which encourages creativity along with technical skill development. The curriculum allows us to explore ideas and work on hands-on projects, helping me understand design beyond just theory. The teachers here are very supportive and experienced; they guide us step-by-step and constantly encourage creative thinking. Their feedback helps me improve my work continuously, while also building my confidence and helping me develop my own unique design style. Overall, the institute is shaping me into a better and more skilled designer.
What are the key skills in the age of AI one must nurture to succeed in the field of graphic design?
In the age of AI, I believe it is important to develop both creative and technical skills to succeed in graphic design. While AI can generate designs quickly, human creativity and original thinking still play a major role. I feel strong conceptual thinking is important to create meaningful and unique designs, along with a clear understanding of design principles like color, typography, and layout. Learning how to use AI tools effectively can also improve productivity and efficiency. I think adaptability is very important, as technology is constantly evolving. Problem-solving skills help in creating designs that communicate the right message, while good communication skills are necessary to understand client needs. I also believe that building a personal style will help me stand out. Overall, combining creativity with the smart use of AI will help me grow as a designer.
Can you share a memorable classroom project or assignment so far from AID days?
One of the most memorable classroom projects from my time at Apeejay Institute of Design was creating a stop-motion animation. It was a completely new experience for me, and I really enjoyed the creative process behind it. From planning the story to designing the characters and shooting each frame, everything required patience and attention to detail. Initially, I found it a bit challenging to understand the technique and maintain smooth motion, but my teacher guided me throughout the entire process with clear explanations and practical tips. They helped me understand important concepts like frame-by-frame movement, lighting, and timing, which improved the overall quality of my work. Their support made a big difference, and in the end, I was really satisfied with the final output as it turned out better than I expected. This project boosted my confidence and taught me the importance of patience and creativity, making it a truly valuable learning experience that I will always remember.
Do you think research plays a crucial role when approaching a design project?
Yes, I strongly believe that research plays a crucial role when approaching a design project. Before starting any design, I feel it is important to understand the topic, target audience, and purpose. Research helps me gather ideas, references, and inspiration, while also allowing me to understand current trends and market expectations. Through research, I can analyse what works and what doesn’t in design, which helps in building a strong concept rather than creating random visuals. It also improves my problem-solving approach and decision-making. Research gives direction to my creativity and makes my designs more meaningful, helping me create work that connects better with the audience. Overall, I believe research is the foundation of any successful design project.
