Devansh Kayal (19), is pursuing his graduation from an international university. During his summer vacations, Devansh is enjoying spending quality time with his parents in Noida. His father is a financial director in a company and mom is a homemaker. The Apeejay School, Noida, alumnus explains how he homed in on his preferred university abroad.

Can you please tell us something about yourself?
I am a hard-working student who tries to complete all the given tasks before time. I was always interested in Economics and Commerce-related programmes. As my father is also in the same field, I wanted to pursue a similar career. That is why I started finding courses about Economics and took admission in the best university for Economics. I want to become an Economist. Apart from studies, I like playing sports such as cricket, football, basketball and table tennis.

In which year did you complete school?

Well, I completed my class12 from Apeejay School, Noida, in 2020. I was a Commerce student and scored 88% marks in my boards. It’s been a while since I have settled abroad, but I do miss my school days.

Which university are you studying in?

I am pursuing B.A (Financial and business economics) at York University, Toronto, Canada. I am in my second year. It is a four-year programme.

What is special about this university?

It is the third-largest university in Canada. It facilitates students with the latest technology and equipment. The infrastructure is also very modern. As I said before, it is the best university for many programmes including Economics. It welcomes many students from different countries across the world.

Will you study further after your graduation?

After graduation, I want to get at least two years of work experience to gain practical knowledge. Then I will do a post-graduate programme from the United States. I am yet to decide whether I want to settle abroad or spend my life in India.

Which exam did you clear and how did you prepare for that exam?

I only gave the IELTS exams. I took classes to prepare for the exam. I must mention that Apeejay School offered us IELTS classes. I took them for a month and did basic preparation at home.

Challenges you faced while taking admission in a global university?
Not really. I hired an agent who guided me throughout. He made it very easy for me. So, it wasn’t a difficult task. Also, I was clear about the university in which I want to go.

What was your reaction when you got selected?

I was enormously excited and happy when I received the offer letter from the university. I was really looking forward to getting admission in this particular university.

Why have you decided to study in an international university?
Actually there are not many universities in India that provide the programme that I am doing. I also applied to get admission in Delhi University, but when I got shortlisted for York University, I grabbed the opportunity.

How did Apeejay help you with the admissions process?
I must thank my school management here. Whether it was projected results or the Letter of Recommendation, they were very kind to provide all the documents on time. Also, I got my IELTS cleared with the help of the coaching I had signed up for.

How do you manage alone in Canada?

Well it is a difficult task, but I was prepared for it. Also, I have friends there, so we help each other.

“If you know what programme you want to study, then choosing between the global universities is not difficult.”
