‘Every theory taught to you in the class will be implemented in your career’

At the orientation session in Apeejay Stya University, Mr. Sagar Mahat, MOC, NITI Aayog, shares valuable insights for the new batch of students

The second day of the orientation programme at Apeejay Stya University (ASU) , Gurugram began with an air of excitement as students looked forward to experiencing University life for the first time. The students were acquainted with the ASU campus, its esteemed faculty, and their peers.

The day’s events were eloquently hosted by Ashita and Keshvi from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC), who served as the Masters of Ceremony. Their dynamic presence on the stage and interaction with the newly admitted students made the freshers comfortable. 

The event commenced with a ceremonial lamp lighting, led by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Registrar, and Deans of all the Schools. 

The programme commenced with a tribute to the Founder Chairman, Late Dr. Stya Paul. Prof. Sanjay Ahirwal, Dean, School of Journalism and Mass Communication took the stage to introduce the visionary leader and his contributions to the institution. A short movie showcasing the inspiring journey of Dr. Stya Paul ji was then presented, offering the students a glimpse into the rich history and values upon which the University is built.

Following this, the Hon’ble Chancellor, Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia, Chairman, Apeejay Stya & Svran Group, Chancellor Apeejay Stya University, and Chairman, Apeejay Education, was introduced by Prof. Ahirwal. Although she could not be present in person, she shared an encouraging message for the newly admitted students. Her words resonated with the audience, providing motivation and a sense of belonging within the university community. A short movie showcasing her journey of taking forward the legacy of her father was presented. 

Following this, Prof. Vijay Vir Singh, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, was introduced by Dr. Sangeeta Taneja, Assistant Professor, School of Design and Visual Arts (SDVA). The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor welcomed the newly admitted students to the University and addressed the gathering with an insightful speech that emphasised the importance of dedication, hard work, and the pursuit of excellence. His address was met with enthusiastic applause, as students felt inspired by his vision for their academic journey and so did the faculty members. 

Dr. Astha Mehta, the Head of the Department, School of Legal Studies, then took the stage to introduce Dr Neha Berlia, Co-Family Business Owner and Core Board Member of Apeejay Stya & Svran Group and Pro-Chancellor of Apeejay Stya University.

Dr. Berlia had shared a recorded message with the new batch of students. Her words were impactful, providing students with valuable advice and encouraging them to make the most of their time at the University.

Prof. Amit Kumar Goel, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology, introduced the Guest Speaker, Mr. Sagar Mahat, MoC – Niti Aayog, Managing Partner – Delhi Angels Den/ IndusTreeBiz. Mr. Mahat was felicitated with a token of appreciation. He emphasised on the importance of being independent and spoke about the support that the students would get from the University for the period of their study and stay at Apeejay Stya University. He also added that the students will be on their own completely when they complete their degree. 

He said, “Every theory taught to you in the class will be implemented in your career whether you choose to build a business or go for a job.” He also laid stress on the importance of communication skills irrespective of the career they have chosen for themselves and the importance of being disciplined, where they have to stay relevant in their field and focus on their health and maintain an equilibrium between their professional and personal life. His lecture centered around start-ups and building a brand for yourself. Mr. Mahat delivered an engaging and thought-provoking lecture, sharing insights and experiences that left a lasting impression on the audience.

The first session of Day 2 concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Prof. (Dr.) Chetan Choudhary, Registrar, Apeejay Stya University wherein he expressed his gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and organisers for their contributions, ensuring the success of the session and inspiring a sense of unity and purpose among the newly admitted students.

The day further witnessed a series of cultural activities organised for the students by their seniors Aditya, IV year, and Drishti, II year, from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences. 

The session started with riddles and word games followed by the highlight of the session ‘Taan se taan mila’ where the students had to guess the song and the movie. Various other games such as guessing the pictures by removing a tile, finding the object amongst the audience, trying not to laugh were also played, fostering a sense of camaraderie and teamwork among the new students. The activities not only provided entertainment but also helped in breaking the ice and building new friendships. Mishty Yadav, B.Tech (Bio-Science) performed Kuchipudi dance followed by Bollywood dance by Dakshika, B.Tech (CSE) and Vandana, BA B.Ed. They were presented with a token of appreciation by Dr. Sonam Raheja, Associate Professor, School of Engineering and Technology and Ms. Heena Jindal, Assistant Professor, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and also, the coordinators for the session. The event ended with sher-o-shayari by Sumit Pandey and a small mimicry act by Keshvi and Kalash. 

Dr. Sonam Raheja addressed the students motivating them to take part in cultural activities and represent the Apeejay Stya University in the National Youth Festival. 

The second day of the orientation programme concluded on a high note, with students feeling more connected and engaged with the university community. The events of the day, from inspirational speeches to interactive activities, were a perfect blend of learning and fun, setting a positive precedent for the academic year ahead.
