Recently, Apeejay School, Pitampura, organised an insightful workshop on Cybersecurity Awareness Among Children for students of Class VIII. The initiative aimed to sensitise young learners to the importance of safe, responsible, and informed digital practices in an increasingly connected world.

The session was conducted by Dr Navtika Singh Nautiyal, Assistant Professor at the School of Law, Forensic Justice and Policy Studies, National Forensic Sciences University, Delhi, and Coordinator of the Pro Bono Club. She was accompanied by Bhavya Jain, a student of the National Forensic Sciences University and an alumna of Apeejay School, Pitampura. Drawing on their expertise and experience, the resource persons encouraged students to become vigilant and responsible digital citizens.

The workshop highlighted the importance of navigating social media cautiously and exercising discretion while sharing personal information online. Students were made aware of the growing threats posed by cyber fraud, online scams, and cyberbullying. The speakers explained how to identify potential online risks, respond to suspicious activities, and seek appropriate assistance when confronted with unsafe digital situations. They also emphasised the significance of understanding cybersecurity laws and legal provisions that safeguard individuals in the digital space.

Focusing on practical strategies for online protection, the resource persons advised students to create strong, unique passwords, protect their digital credentials, avoid suspicious links, and exercise caution when interacting with strangers online. They stressed the importance of reporting cyber incidents promptly and seeking support from trusted adults and relevant authorities. Students were also informed about cybercrime helplines and reporting mechanisms available to help them navigate challenging online experiences.

The interactive session witnessed enthusiastic participation, with students engaging with the speakers and gaining valuable insights into digital safety.

The workshop concluded with the message that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility rather than merely a technical concern. By cultivating awareness, practising safe online habits, and standing against cyberbullying, young learners can contribute towards building a safer, more respectful, and secure digital environment for everyone.
