Choosing the right institute is an important step for students aspiring to build a career in design. For Ritik Verma, a Fashion Design student at Apeejay Institute of Design, the decision was driven by his interest in the field and his research. What began as an interest in design is now taking shape through practical assignments, market research and exposure to the fundamentals of the fashion industry.

What made you choose Apeejay Institute of Design?

I had decided to pursue a diploma in design and researched the options before choosing Apeejay Institute of Design. I liked what I learnt about the institute, particularly its faculty, teaching approach and academic environment. After joining, I found the teachers supportive and the quality of education very good. My experience has been better than I initially expected, and I feel that I made the right choice.

How has your experience been with the faculty so far?

My experience has been much better than I had anticipated. The faculty members are supportive, and the classes have helped me understand the course more effectively. What I appreciate is that the learning process is not limited to theoretical concepts. We are also getting opportunities to work on practical assignments, which has helped me develop a better understanding of design.

Fashion Design is a field that requires creativity as well as technical knowledge. How is the institute helping you develop these skills through practical learning?

Practical learning is an important part of my experience here. A significant amount of our work involves practical assignments. I feel that my practical skills have improved considerably.

I am also undertaking market research, which helps me understand the field beyond the classroom. For a design student, it is important to learn not only how to develop an idea but also to understand the market and the context in which a design will be presented. These experiences are helping me build my understanding of the subject and approach design with greater clarity.

What inspired you to pursue Fashion Design, especially when students today explore a wide range of career options?

I have always been interested in design and creative work. It was something I wanted to pursue, and that interest eventually led me to choose this field. For me, the decision was about following an area that I genuinely enjoy. I wanted to explore my creative interests and learn how to turn my ideas into designs. Pursuing Fashion Design gives me an opportunity to develop those interests and work towards a career in a field I feel passionate about.

Do you have a particular career goal in mind? How do you envision your journey as a fashion designer?

Yes, I have a goal in mind. I want to create my own designs and get them modelled. I hope to develop my ideas into finished designs and gradually establish myself in the fashion industry. At present, I am focused on learning, improving my practical skills and understanding the different aspects of design. I believe that building a strong foundation at this stage will help me move closer to my ambitions.

Are there any fashion designers whose work inspires you?

I particularly admire Manish Malhotra. I have seen his collections and really like his work. His designs have inspired my interest in fashion, and I enjoy exploring the collections he creates. As I continue learning, I want to develop my own creative approach and discover how I can translate my ideas into designs that reflect my individual style.
