Three students of Apeejay School, Noida, shared that focused preparation and consistency are key to success

The transition from Class XI to Class XII marks a crucial phase in a student’s academic journey. As they gear up for the Board exams, students must strike a balance between mastering the current syllabus and revising previous concepts. This period demands focused preparation, disciplined study routines, and strategic planning to excel in both school and competitive exams. Meet three students from Apeejay School, Noida — Arnav Vyas (93.2%), Sohini Mondal (87.4%), and Lavanya Varshney (80.8%), who have demonstrated the importance of early preparation.

Arnav, who is pursuing PCM with Economics, shared that the teachers at the school have been truly wonderful in guiding him. “They explained everything so well, especially the teachers who taught Microeconomics and Statistics. Their guidance gave me complete clarity, and I found the subject easy to grasp. As for PCM, I followed a layered approach. First, I learnt the concepts in school and did self-study. Studying the same topic three to four times helped me build a strong understanding. This strategy made a big difference in my performance,” the Class XII student said.

His study strategy in Class XI was simple — be consistent. “I didn’t find the syllabus very difficult as long as I kept up with it regularly. I made sure to play sports for an hour every day to stay active, and thereafter, I would study for two hours. This daily routine helped me manage my time well. I had followed a similar routine in Class X, and since it worked then, I decided to continue with it in Class XI — and it paid off. I’m following the same strategy now in Class XII from day one.

Sohini, who is pursuing PCB with Mathematics, said that she spends her weekdays focusing on school studies. I primarily used NCERT books as my base, but referred to other books, especially for Physics and Chemistry, to practise a larger number of questions. I found numerical problems quite challenging, so I made sure to work on those more,” she shared and added that NCERT is like the Bible for our syllabus.

Even though questions don’t always come directly from NCERT, everything in the exam is based on it. So if you’ve solved the NCERT thoroughly, you get a good idea of the kind of questions that can be asked. It helps immensely in understanding the base concepts. Furthermore, the teachers were very supportive throughout. They were always available to clarify doubts. Whether it was related to the competitive syllabus or school exams, I could approach them anytime,” she said.

Lavanya’s study strategy started with the NCERT textbooks. “I believe in building a strong foundation, so I always began with the basics from NCERT and then moved on to reference books. Priority should always be NCERT, and then one can move to supplementary materials, like those provided by a coaching institute,” the Class XII student stated.
