The students of Apeejay’s IB School shone at Synergia 2025, which was an unforgettable event

Sports events are an integral part of a school’s curriculum, fostering physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship among students. They provide young minds with the opportunity to challenge their limits, build resilience, and develop leadership qualities. With this vision, Apeejay’s IB School, Apeejay School International, Panchsheel Park, organised its exceptional Annual Sports Meet —Synergia 2025 — on a vibrant Saturday morning of March 1, 2025.

As one approached the sports ground, the entrance was adorned with colourful flags and a warm, welcoming board, setting the perfect tone for an action-packed day. On one side, eager parents were seated, excited to witness their children’s athletic prowess, while on the other, participants rested and prepared with determination. Adding to the festive spirit, two giant Mickey and Minnie Mouse mascots greeted and motivated students at the entrance.

The event commenced with an engaging welcome speech and commentary by Rivan Berlia (MYP-4) and Tani Bansal (DP-1), who set the stage for the day’s exhilarating events. A warm address was given to the school’s visionary leaders; Principal, Mr Purshottam Dutt Vashist and Vice-principal, Ms Neha Sharma, who continue to inspire students to strive for greatness. A symbolic moment marked the official inauguration of the event when Mr Vashist, along with the Reception students, released a cluster of balloons into the sky, signifying aspirations taking flight. Faraz Ahmad (DP-1), the school’s Sports Captain, led all participants in the pledge for fair play, reinforcing the values of integrity and sportsmanship.

With energy levels soaring, the school’s music band kickstarted the event with electrifying beats that got everyone grooving. This was followed by an adorable welcome dance performance by the Nursery and Reception kids, who used hula hoops as props, showcasing their agility and coordination. The stage then lit up with an energetic drill display by PYP-1, 2, and 3 students, who performed synchronised movements with colorful pom-poms in hand, leaving the audience in awe.

Demonstrating finesse and mastery, students showcased an outstanding football performance, impressing spectators with their footwork and ball control. This was followed by a power-packed Taekwondo demonstration by PYP and MYP students, where they exhibited their strength and discipline by breaking tiles with precision kicks and hand strikes. Keeping up the momentum, students then presented an exceptional basketball showcase, highlighting teamwork and coordination. Another remarkable drill was performed by PYP-4 and PYP-5 students, adding a dynamic touch to the day’s performances. One of the standout moments of the event was the Yoga Acrobat showcase, where students exhibited their flexibility, confidence, and incredible balance, earning them thunderous applause.

As the performances concluded, the real excitement began with Funathon — an Inter-tribe Competition that saw students representing their respective tribes — Fire, Water, Earth, and Air — giving their all to secure victory. The competition was fierce, and the enthusiasm was infectious as students demonstrated teamwork and perseverance.

The commentary panel added a fun twist to the event, with Aaditya Nath Mathur (MYP-5), Nia Lobo (DP-2), and Vaishnavi Choudhary (DP-1) entertaining the audience with their lively narration.

Ms Sonia, mother of Bhavya Dugar (DP-1) and Yuvraj Dugar (MYP-4), shares her happiness as her children embark on their new journey at school. “It filled my heart with joy to see them learning and growing every day. Today’s event was an incredible experience, filled with excitement and meaningful moments. I am grateful to see them thrive in such a nurturing environment,” she said.

“The event was truly enjoyable and fruitful. I believe such events should take place twice a year,” shared Ms. Vidhya, mother of Nithik, a student of MYP-3.

The races officially began with a series of thrilling hurdle races, including Hula Hoop Hustle, Obstacle Mania, and Balance Hoops Without Hands, which tested students’ agility, balance, and endurance. This was followed by sprint races for boys and girls, where speed and determination were on full display. The competition intensified as relay races commenced, fostering a sense of collaboration, trust, and teamwork among students.

One of the most heartwarming aspects of Synergia 2025 was the inclusivity and unity displayed by the school. Not only did students compete with enthusiasm, but staff members, parents, and even the helping staff actively participated in various races. Parents, in particular, were brimming with excitement, reliving their childhood as they ran alongside their children, making the event even more memorable.

“Team sports play a crucial role in a child’s development. As a tennis player myself, I strongly believe that sports should be given a balanced proportion alongside academics. Today’s event was exceptionally well-organised, with the school maintaining this balance beautifully. The highlight of the day was witnessing so many parents actively participating. I am truly grateful to the school for fostering such a strong sense of sportsmanship in my children,” shares Mr Gautam Mathur, father of Aahana Mathur (PYP-5) and Aaditya Nath Mathur (MYP-5).

“What an amazing day it was! The highlight for me was the hurdle race, which was a fantastic new addition. I truly enjoyed being here today, it was so well-organised,” Ms Kat Shepherd, mother of Erik (PYP-3) and Maria (PYP-1), said.

As the event drew to a close, it was time to announce the winners. The anticipation was palpable as the results were revealed, and the Fire Tribe (Red Team) emerged victorious, claiming the winner’s trophy with immense pride. The Principal and Vice-principal facilitated the medal distribution, honouring the hard work and dedication of the students. Though all participants gave their absolute best, the triumph of the Fire Tribe was celebrated with joyous cheers and high-fives as they lifted their well-earned trophy high in the air.

Mr Ayush Khrub, the Physical Education Facilitator, shared his pride in all the participants, emphasising his decision to remain unaffiliated with any tribe to ensure fairness. He expressed his joy in witnessing the remarkable growth of the students. This time, a hurdle race was introduced, and even the youngest participants excelled. Despite the unexpected challenge of potential rain, the weather turned out to be in our favour. He also highlighted how some students who performed only moderately during practice exceeded expectations on the final day, today.

“The Tribe of the Year challenge was a fantastic initiative that truly engaged the students. A day before the Sports Day, the students were fully immersed in strategising, helping each other, and calculating points to win. It was exciting to see their enthusiasm. In particular, Saanvi Sharma from MYP-4 helped much by identifying newly admitted students and updated the existing WhatsApp group, ensuring everyone stayed connected. We worked together until 10 PM, making it a fun and collaborative effort.

“This initiative should continue, as it fosters a strong sense of community within the school. In the end, students were actively discussing victory not as Tribe Fire but as ASI, demonstrating that real learning and teamwork,” Dr Anjali Singh, Science & ESS Facilitator, also the leader of Fire tribe, said.

“I’d like to thank my entire team — we couldn’t have done it without them, especially the younger kids. Their support was incredible! A special shoutout to MYP students as they kept everyone motivated, helped with strategies, and even reminded the team to bring essentials like water bottles. As for strategy, we carefully planned our races, assigning teammates to events where they’d perform best. In relays, we strategically placed our fastest and slowest runners. I wouldn’t call myself an athlete, but I do hit the gym six times a week. Sticking to a diet is tough when you’re young, but breathing techniques help control stamina. Also, running form matters—using the balls of your feet improves speed without tiring you out too quickly,” Ria Chadha (DP-1), Team Captain of Fire tribe, said and added that she wouldn’t trade this team for anything. “It’s perfectly balanced, and I love them,” Ria shared.

With hearts filled with pride and smiles all around, Synergia 2025 concluded on a high note, leaving behind cherished memories of athleticism, teamwork, and school spirit. The event not only celebrated sports but also reinforced values of perseverance, leadership, and camaraderie, ensuring that every participant walked away as a true winner. The success of the day was evident in the happy faces of students, teachers, and parents alike, making it a day to remember in the history of the school.
