The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the Political Science exam on March 22, 2024. The students were given three hours to complete the paper which began at 10:30 am and ended at 1:30 pm. The students were also given 15 minutes – from 10:15 am to 10:30 am – to thoroughly read the question paper to understand what was being asked of them.

The Political Science syllabus is divided into two parts theory and one part of project work. Each theory part was worth 40 marks while the project has a total weightage of 20 marks. The total marks for the theory exam were conducted for a total of 80 marks. The two parts of the CBSE class XII included Part A – Contemporary World Politics and Part B – Politics in India Since Independence. There are a total of 14 chapters to study for the theory part.

According to Mohammad Tarique, PGT Political Science, Apeejay School, Noida, the question paper was well-balanced and easy. “Even compared to last year, this year’s paper was easy. There were 30 questions in all and barring an MCQ that was a little tough, the rest of the 1-markers were easy,” Tarique said and shared a detailed analysis as follows.

·         The question paper was based on the NCERT book and hence based on the CBSE curriculum.

·         Both Sections A and B were easy; the questions were direct with no twists.

·         There was an internal choice in 6-mark questions. Even the choice question was easy.

·         The maximum mark for the question paper was 80.

·         The paper was not lengthy; the students were able to complete it within the three hours allotted.

·         All three sets of the CBSE question paper were on similar lines. The only difference was in the marking of the questions.
