In the race to build successful careers, students often sacrifice the very thing that makes success possible their health.
Late night study sessions, endless scrolling on social media, binge watching, irregular meals, lack of sleep, and constant academic pressure have quietly become a part of student life. Many believe these habits are temporary, but over time they affect concentration, productivity, emotional well being, and overall performance.
Health is not a distraction from success. It is the foundation of success.
As students, we often believe that sacrificing sleep is a sign of hard work. In reality, sleep is one of the most powerful tools for learning. A well rested mind remembers better, thinks clearly, and makes better decisions. Likewise, taking short breaks, exercising regularly, eating nutritious food, and limiting unnecessary screen time are not luxuries. They are investments in long term performance.
During my undergraduate years, I was a day scholar. Every day, I spent nearly six hours travelling between home and college. Looking back, that adds up to approximately 180 full days over three years spent on the road. Initially, I saw this as lost time. Later, I realised that every journey could become an opportunity to learn, reflect, observe, and prepare myself mentally for the day ahead. More importantly, I understood the value of taking care of my physical and mental health despite a demanding routine.
One lesson that has stayed with me came from a simple conversation with one of my professors at Apeejay Stya University.
“Just start, Aryan Sharma, and we will help you.”
Those words reminded me that every challenge becomes manageable when we move forward one step at a time.
Students today face more than academic pressure. They deal with uncertainty, competition, career anxiety, family expectations, and the constant comparison created by social media. In such an environment, building a calm and resilient mind is just as important as earning high grades. Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is to pause, breathe, and allow ourselves to recover.
I sincerely thank Apeejay Stya University for encouraging students to grow not only academically but also personally. I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Jyoti Kumari, whose constant support, encouragement, and positivity have always reminded me that growth becomes meaningful when we take care of ourselves along the journey.
Success is not achieved by exhausting ourselves. It is achieved by sustaining ourselves. Your career will benefit from your knowledge, but your life will benefit from your health. Take care of your mind. Take care of your body. Because the greatest asset you will ever carry into your future is yourself.
