Shefali Chaprana’s son Jai Vardhan has begun formal schooling at Apeejay School, Faridabad Sector 15, this year. Enrolled in nursery, Jai did not face any difficulty in adjusting to the new environment, says the mother. In fact, he has started showing progress in just a month. In an interview, Shefali, a homemaker, talks in detail about her first visit to the school, her relationship with the teachers, and more. Edited excerpts:

What made you enroll your son in Apeejay Faridabad Sector 15?

My husband Harsh Vardhan Chaprana is an alumnus of Apeejay Faridabad Sector 15. He was certain that our son would get the best quality education and exposure in this school. That’s why we chose it.

Tell us about your experience when you visited the school at the time of the admission.

My first visit to the school turned out to be a good experience. My husband, of course, was more aware of how the facilities provided by the school had changed for the better. We were convinced that we had made the right choice. The principal Dr Parul Tyagi and other staff members were quite cordial. We were very satisfied with our interaction with them.

Jai has been going to school for some time now. What has the experience been like?

The teachers are very caring and give proper attention to each child. Having missed out on the experience of a playschool due to the pandemic, this is the first time Jai is experiencing what a school is. However, he has adjusted to the Apeejay environment very quickly and the teachers played a great role in that. He is very happy with the school.

Our son is a fussy eater, but his teacher started taking care of it after I told her about the issue. I have developed a level of comfort with the class teacher where I can openly share my concerns with her, knowing that she would always help. Besides, the teachers also ensure they share timely feedback with the parents.

So, is your son getting personal attention from his teacher?

Indeed! Whenever we speak to his teachers, they tell us about our son’s strengths and weaknesses quite accurately. His class teacher regularly tells me about how well he has or has not performed in class. This goes to show how invested she is in his development.

What has Jai learned so far?

Initially, Jai would be hesitant to speak in class. But now he has begun to interact well with others. His communication skills are gradually improving. He has also started participating in co-curricular activities. Coming to academics, he has learned phonics and rhymes. We are happy with his progress.
