Apeejay Institute of Technology-School of Architecture and Planning (AIT-SAP) organised a poster-making competition on the occasion of World Heritage Day 2023. Students and even teachers participated in the event in large numbers in the event to pay tribute to our rich heritage.

“World Heritage Day is important to all of us. It is heritage that links our past to the present — we cannot build a good future unless we know our past,” said Ar Atri Mishra, assistant professor, AIT-SAP, who coordinated the event along with two other professors Ar Anand Khatri and Ar Mrinalini Singh. “So, we thought of encouraging our students, who are already learning history, to practically implement their knowledge and creativity in poster making.”

Students from all batches participated in the competition. Those from each year were given a different theme to work on, based on their course curriculum. The themes chosen were as follows:

 *“Ancient Cities” for first-year students

* “European Heritage” for second-year students

*“Modern Indian Heritage” for third-year students

* “People’s Heritage” for fourth-year students

*”Your Heritage Links” for fifth-year students and faculty

“We wanted the senior students and the teachers to focus on intangible heritage. And for students till second and third year, we chose themes around tangible heritage,” Ar Mishra added. The winners from each year were awarded T-shirts and certificates.

On the sidelines, Ar Khatri also shared a heartfelt poem themed on World Heritage Day.

World Heritage Day, also known as International Day for Monuments and Sites, is observed every year on April 18 to promote awareness about the diversity of our cultural heritage and the efforts needed for their conservation and protection. Festivities on this day include cultural events, guided tours through heritage sites and exhibitions.

The day was proposed by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) on April 18,1982, and was approved by the General Assembly of UNESCO in 1983. Each year, ICOMOS announces a new theme for World Heritage Day activities. The theme for this year was “Heritage Changes”, in line with their strategic focus on cultural heritage and climate action.
