Dr. Shilpa Beri is a radiologist. Her children Vedant and Vedika Beri are class 9 and 7 students at Apeejay Nerul respectively. In an informal interview, Dr Beri discusses how Apeejay School, Nerul values the feedback given by the parents and works alongside them as a team to ensure a student’s holistic development. Edited excerpts:

Why did you choose Apeejay Nerul ahead of other schools for their admission?

I think I made a very good decision. Back then there were only two good schools in Nerul. I went ahead with Apeejay Nerul since I received great feedback from other parents that the teachers in the school are really dedicated and hard working. They always ensure a student’s overall development. They give proper feedback to the parent and work along with the parent. I am very happy that I have enrolled my kids in such a great school.

Please tell us a bit about Vedant and Vedika and take us through their progress at school?

Vedika loves all the subjects at schools. She is an outgoing child. She is equally good in both academics as well as extra-curricular activities. She is the Discipline Prefect and House Captain at school. She is interested and eager in helping other students and teachers.

My son Vedant on the other hand is very naughty. I used to get regular complaints about his various mischiefs at school from the teachers. As I said previously, the teachers at the school work along with the parents for the development of a child’s personality. Now Vedant has matured and I am not getting any complaints now.

Are the teachers engaging well with the students?

Yes, they are. We always say that the past two years of online schooling were very difficult for the students but I must say hats off to the teachers of Apeejay Nerul. They have taken extra classes at times. I have seen that the other school students did not have so many classes. They were playing and engaging in other activities in the absence of proper school classes. But the teachers at Apeejay Nerul ensured that the students do not lose out on their academic as well as extra-curricular touch. Assemblies were conducted every day where students were encouraged to participate in and present their abilities. The online classes functioned like a normal school routine.  I am really proud that I have enrolled my children in such a good school.

How has the experience of the online classes been for both your children?

I have enjoyed it and the children have also enjoyed it. Initially they were anxious that other school students were constantly playing while they had to study in the online classes. However, they soon realised that Apeejay Nerul students are a cut above the students of other schools because of this very reason itself.

Now that the schools have reopened, are Vedant and Vedika excited to be back in the school premises?

Yes, they are very excited to go back to school. They were missing all their friends and teachers. Today was the first day of school. They attended their classes and were overjoyed at meeting their friends and teachers physically after a long time.
