Mrs. Vidhya Devi is the founder of Van Technologies. Her husband Mr. J Athi Kumar is the Head of Technology at IndiaLends Company. They are proud parents of Nithik Roshan, class five student at Apeejay International School, South Delhi. In an exclusive interview, she shares her reasons for choosing the school, her son’ progress and her perception about the online classes. Edited excerpts:

Why did you choose Apeejay School International over other schools for your child’s admission?

Well, the first reason was that the atmosphere of the school was very nice. We initially tried for a CBSE board school when we came to the national Capital. Nithik gave the entrance examinations but couldn’t secure a seat. So, we began searching for an international school for him. That is when we came across Apeejay International School. The way Apeejay International School cared about us as parents and about Nithik as well, it was really very impressive. So we thought that this school would be very good for our child. Fortunately, we also managed to get a seat here.

Also, we got very good reviews about the school from all. Everyone said that Apeejay International is a good school, it takes a lot of care of its students and that the child would definitely have a bright future ahead.

Please tell us about your child and take us through his progress at school?

Nithik is performing very well at school. He loves music, the PT period and the Hindi class. He likes to play cricket and football. He is a goalkeeper in football (laughs) and an all-rounder in cricket. He plays cricket inside the house as well with his father (laughs). We are a South Indian family, so Tamil is our mother tongue. Nithik has learned Hindi after coming to Delhi. Vandana Ma’am, his class teacher, has helped him a lot in that.

Are the teachers engaging well with the students?

The teachers are taking a lot of care of the children even in the online classes. From nine in the morning till two in the afternoon, they take care of the children very well and are engaged with each and every child. The teachers are never distracted from their work. So, all the credit of a child’s progress goes to them.

I would like to thank Ms Vandana, his class teacher.  She is so kind and she truly embodies a parenting attitude. She takes care of every child like her own. It is very impressive.

In the online classes, the same teacher handles 3-4 subjects. In most cases, children get bored of being taught by the same teacher but Ms. Vandana takes care of this situation very nicely. She talks with the students about the topics of their interest, interacts with them at an equal level and keeps them involved.

What is the best thing about the school?

Recently, I came to know from the parents of some of the kids in our locality who go to other schools that they hardly have one or two classes a day in the online mode and then no classes on the next day. But it is not the same case when it comes to Apeejay International. The school follows a well-regulated school routine even in the online mode. The classes take place from 9 AM-2PM akin to the physical classes. The students are missing out on the physical classes but they are certainly not missing out on the knowledge quotient. They are learning every day.
