Google has announced a new set of artificial intelligence-powered education features designed to make studying more interactive, personalised and accessible. The latest tools, being introduced across Google Search and Gemini, include support for students preparing for competitive examinations such as India’s Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
The initiative forms part of Google’s broader “Back to School 2026” programme, which brings new educational capabilities to Search, Gemini, YouTube and Google Classroom. The company is also extending examination support to students preparing for international tests including the SAT, ACT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT, AP and ENEM.
One of the major additions to Google Search is an AI-powered learning experience that enables students to practise through quizzes, explore interactive visual explanations and receive guided, step-by-step help using Google Lens. These features are intended to make difficult academic concepts easier to understand while giving learners opportunities to test their knowledge.
Google has also launched a dedicated Student Hub within Gemini, bringing several academic tools together. Students can organise study material, create flashcards, attempt practice quizzes and maintain digital study notebooks. By uploading resources such as lecture notes and syllabi, students can use Gemini to assess their understanding, identify knowledge gaps and receive customised lessons and quizzes based on their learning objectives.
The company plans to enhance these personalised lessons with additional graphs and images. Gemini will also be able to identify examination and assignment deadlines from uploaded syllabi and, with student consent, add them to Google Calendar.
Another notable development is the integration of Deep Research with Gemini Live. Students can request detailed research reports, allow Gemini to work on them in the background and subsequently discuss the findings through voice-based conversations.
Google is simultaneously expanding access to its AI services for students. Eligible college students in India and other markets outside the US can receive one year of Google AI Plus at no cost, subject to eligibility and availability. The plan includes access to Gemini Omni, increased usage limits and 400 GB of storage. The latest student offer is available for redemption until December 31, 2026, across more than 140 markets where Google AI Plus operates.
The education push also extends to teachers. New Google Classroom capabilities will allow educators to customise students’ AI experiences according to their curricula and monitor learning progress. A Classroom-connected application within Gemini can additionally assist teachers with preparing lesson plans.
With these developments, Google is positioning AI not merely as a search or productivity tool, but as an increasingly integrated learning companion for students and educators.
