Akshat Jain is leading the life he carefully built after years of hustle. The Senior General Manager and Project Coordinator at Colliers International, a well-known investment management company, he pursued his Bachelors in Architecture and Building Construction from Apeejay Institute of Technology – School of Architecture & Planning (AIT-SAP). In a quick conversation, the alumnus informs us of the support, guidance and backing he received at the college that empowered him to chase his ambitions. Read edited excerpts:
Akshat, what does a regular work day look like?
Being a Project Coordinator is just like being the bridge between the management & the work on the site. In Project Management, there’s work to do, you need to always think about the project. It involves coordination in terms of design, planning, concept development, site feasibility, updating the design, budget reviewing, evaluating design inputs, compliance, reviewing timelines of project delivery, resource optimisation and other endless things.
But this field no matter how hectic, it still makes me feel happiness and immense pride to be involved from the starting till the end of the project in these various tasks and stages.
Share some of your best memories from the Apeejay years?
During those five years, I made such beautiful memories, there’s so many of them it will take a long time if I go on to speak about them all. But the best moments were always during competitions, design submissions & thesis presentation time. That time was challenging, exciting and rewarding.
Did the faculty at Apeejay guide you well?
Yes, with their guidance, they made us competent by brushing up on our skills and I must say that we are in this position today because of the support and encouragement they provided us then. It enabled us to do our best.

Finally, one advice for the current students at Apeejay
Understand yourself, think about the outcome of your designs, especially while preparing any drawings. Be passionate about your field and get knowledge about all the details. Lastly, enjoy & feel proud to be an architect.
