Early education of a child must be in mother tongue, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said. “If the early education is given to a child in mother tongue they will be able to grasp it. If given in another language, first they have to learn the language and then they will understand,” said the Vice President while speaking at the Centenary celebrations of the Delhi University.

“One must have proficiency in their languages and have original ideas,” he added.

Venkaiah  Naidu, who is the Chancellor of the university, said it was important to avoid complacency. “Ancient India had enjoyed the reputation of being a Viswaguru and was a renowned cradle of culture with reputed centres of knowledge. The universities of Nalanda, Takshashila, Vikramshila, Vallabhi and Odantapuri bear ample testimony to this fact. We must ensure that our universities again become global learning centres,” Mr. Naidu said.
