UGC forms panel to work on textbooks in Indian languages

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairperson M Jagadesh Kumar has recently met representatives of international publishers to discuss a roadmap for translating their books as part of plans to introduce undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Indian languages across disciplines. In an online meeting held, he has set a timeline of 6-12 months for the same.

Representatives from Wiley India, Springer Nature, Taylor & Francis, Cambridge University Press India, Cengage India, and McGraw-Hill India were part of this meeting.

“We intend to translate many textbooks into Indian languages. Subsequently, we will also cover postgraduate programmes. The publishers’ representatives have expressed their willingness to partner in this national mission,” Kumar told a news portal.

The course books will be translated into various languages including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Odiya, Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu.
