How did your breakthrough in the film and television industry happen?

When I was in Nursery, my father got a portfolio shoot done for me. Then, he sent it to a few producers and casting directors. From there onwards, I got picked up and began to feature in some brand advertisements. Soon, I started shooting for commercials, and then there was no looking back. Gradually, I built contacts, met more people and things went in the right direction for me.

Who is your role model?

Shah Rukh Khan. I am a big fan of his work.

How has been your association with Apeejay School, Nerul?

My association has been great! I loved being in school. My first set of friends and teachers in life were from Apeejay, and I miss every bit of that experience now!

Any foundational lessons learnt at Apeejay that are helping you in your career?

Most importantly, I have learnt gratitude. The value of hard work and concentration were also taught to me early on by my teachers. They always emphasised on building relationships and valuing them. This has helped me a lot.

Your favourite memory at school?

In 2001-2002, when I was in grade 3, I remember that the school put up a whole bulletin board to celebrate my talent in advertisements and other achievements. At that time, Ms. Anita Bharti Ma’am, my Hindi teacher, encouraged me a lot. That was the first time I was noticed in the entire school, and this small gesture from them really boosted my confidence.

An upcoming work that is keeping you busy?

I am currently performing the role of ‘Chima Ji’, brother of the main lead in Television series – Kashibai Bajirao Ballal on Zee 5. I feel that it is the most challenging project for me, by far, because we shoot in super hot conditions with thick costumes and heavy accessories.

For those wanting to be in your shoes, your advice?

Don’t give up! Keep going and keep working. Read and learn more about your passions and work hard to achieve them. Stay away from negativity, take rejections positively and learn from your seniors.

Your dream project?

To perform action-comedy for a feature that can also have a social message.

Things in the industry that new actors should be mindful of?

Be wary of manipulation. Give your 100 percent and stick to your word. Focus on your profession, role or stint and don’t let others get into your head.
