It was truly an enthralling experience for this Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values recipient. She had been nominated for this award for the last five years, and therefore, receiving this award was an incredibly joyous moment. Meet Alankrita Singh (academic year 2024-25) from Apeejay School, Noida. “The journey wasn’t just about waiting for the award; each year helped me improve my vision and discover new ways to help others around me. The process itself was deeply rewarding, making the recognition even more special,” the Class XI student shared.
In a candid interview, Alankrita talked about an aspect of Dr Stya Paul that truly inspired her among other things.
Waiting for five years must have been challenging. How did you stay motivated?
It required patience, but I never focused solely on the recognition. My main motive was to keep persevering, irrespective of whether I was awarded or not. Each round of nominations taught me valuable lessons about self-improvement and resilience. I’ve been blessed with teachers who relentlessly guided me, offering support and encouragement throughout this journey. Their belief in me kept my motivation alive.

What is one aspect of Dr Stya Paul that truly inspires you?
His resilience truly defies imagination. No matter what life threw at him — be it in personal relationships, professional challenges, or during the independence struggle — he always emerged victorious. His ability to stay strong and persevere through difficulties is what inspires me the most. He was a pioneering leader who showed immense strength and dedication in all aspects of life.
Many may get dejected after repeated disappointments. How did you maintain focus?
I focused on the bigger picture. It wasn’t just about receiving the award but about staying true to the values I believed in. I also learnt that perseverance is key. My teachers and parents played a significant role here. My parents gave me just enough freedom to think independently while also being open to debates and discussions. They helped me differentiate between when I was being unreasonable and when my thoughts were valid. This balance allowed me to grow into a rational thinker.
Adolescence can be a rebellious phase. How did you manage to stay on track?
Like most teenagers, I did face moments of rebellion, but I learnt not to be a rebel without a cause. The inculcation of human values helped me understand the importance of differentiating between what is right and what is easy. My teachers and parents played a crucial role in guiding me during these years, helping me stay grounded and focused on what truly matters.
How would you define human values?
Human values, in my opinion, are the guiding principles for our day-to-day actions. They are embedded within us from the moment we gain a conscience. It’s that inner voice that tells you whether your actions will make you proud or lead to regret. Human values guide us to make decisions that align with our moral compass and help us lead a life of integrity and kindness.
Are you involved in any charity work or volunteering activities?
Yes, our school has given me several opportunities to contribute to society. I regularly participate in donation drives, like Daan Utsav and have been involved in various camps organised by the school. As a member of the Interact Club, I had the chance to visit underprivileged children, interact with them, and even educate them. These experiences have been deeply fulfilling and have helped me connect with the community on a personal level. It made me realise the importance of giving back and using my privileges to help others.
