Recently, Apeejay School, Saket, organised a micro-teaching session that brought focus to classroom practices, lesson planning, and student engagement. The session included demonstration lessons by Ms Sanjana from the English department and Ms Priyanka from the Science department.

The exercise was designed as a professional learning opportunity for teachers. It allowed them to observe how well-planned lessons, clear questioning, and activity-based methods can make classroom learning more effective and meaningful for students.

Learning through participation

During the English demonstration lesson, Ms Sanjana used interactive teaching strategies that encouraged students to take part in the learning process. The lesson was structured in a way that kept the students involved and helped them connect with the subject more naturally.

Her use of activities and classroom interaction showed how language learning can become more engaging when students are given space to think, respond, and participate. The approach also reflected the value of thoughtful planning in making lessons more student-centred.

Science made more accessible

Ms Priyanka’s Science demonstration lesson also focused on active student participation. Through relevant teaching-learning materials and carefully planned activities, she helped students understand concepts with greater clarity.

The use of effective questioning techniques kept the classroom discussion focused and encouraged students to observe, think, and respond. Such methods are important because they help students move beyond passive listening.

Focus on better classroom practices

The session highlighted the role of innovative pedagogical practices in strengthening classroom teaching. It also underlined the importance of classroom management, structured activities, and the right use of teaching-learning materials in maintaining student interest.

What stood out was the emphasis on meaningful learning outcomes. The session showed that when lessons are planned with care and delivered through interactive methods, students are more likely to stay engaged.

The session served as an enriching experience for the teachers and reinforced the importance of activity-based learning in today’s classrooms.
