On August 19, 1839, one of the earliest methods of capturing permanent images on a light-sensitive surface famously known as the ‘Daguerreotype’ , was announced to the public by the French Academy of Sciences. This is why every year August 19 is observed as the World Photography Day.

Commemorating  this occasion, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, observed World Photography Day. To mark the celebration, a workshop and competition titled “Tasveer Bolti Hai” was organised to enhance photography skills of students.

Enthusiastic participants clicked and submitted a photo that narrated a story. The participating students clicked a variety of photos showcasing multiple perspectives and highlighting intriguing narratives.

In the workshop on photography, students got hands-on experience. Mr. Kunj Arora of Department of Applied Art shared insightful tips on how to enhance photography skills with the students. He further explained about the modern cameras, lens and other equipment along with their significance to make the process of photography more surreal and lively. Subsequently, he evaluated the photographs clicked by the students and gave them suggestions for improvement.

Out of all the participating students, Nandini Singh bagged the first prize, followed by Moksh Kochhar who won the second prize, and Diksha Nayyar as well as Gurashish Singh grabbed third prizes. All the students were also awarded with certificates.
