Art exhibitions organised in school offer the best platform through which learners get to express themselves and think outside of the box. The artistic skills which have come out of these exhibitions have been rewarding in terms of self-confidence, but more importantly, furnished an appreciation for varied traditions of the arts — something highly vital for an all-round educational experience.

To provide students with a well-rounded knowledge, Apeejay School, Pitampura, recently organised its Annual Exhibition 2024 – INDIA-A TAPESTRY OF VIBRANT CULTURES. The programme was an ode to the ideology of the school in providing a very vibrant teaching environment wherein creativity and holistic growth of a student are nurtured.
Meet one such student, Hanshikha Chauhan, a student of class XII at the school, who showcased her artistic flare. In a candid conversation, she talked about her inspiration among other things.
Tell us about yourself.
My name is Hanshikha Chauhan and I am at present in class XII pursuing the Humanities stream. I have a passion for art and plan to take up a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA). However, nothing is final yet since it is early days. But I know for a fact that I will continue with my passion for drawing.
How did you end up contributing to the exhibition?

When I came to know that the school was organising its Annual Art Exhibition, I decided to be a part of it as well. This is my final year in the school and I wanted to make some lasting memories here. I have been drawing since I was a young student. My interest in art was inspired by my father, who is very good at art.
What themes do you like to work on?
I don’t stick to a particular theme but enjoy painting and sketching in general, including human forms and whatever comes to my mind. While I also paint, I prefer to use pencils and charcoals for the sketches; they are my go-to when I inspiration strikes me.
How was your overall experience at the exhibition?
The overall experience at the exhibition was wonderful. I made a painting of our Founder-Chairman Dr Stya Paul and gifted the same to the school. I chose to paint Dr Stya Paul because I find his life story very inspiring and motivating, especially given his achievements despite his disabilities.
Learning from the exhibition.
The overall experience of being part of the exhibition was exhilarating. It boosted my confidence when people walked up to my artwork and appreciated it. It also left a nice feeling when I gifted the painting to the school.
