We live in an Artificial Intelligence (AI) world. The requirement to be on top of your game is greater than ever in this fast-changing digital environment. To be successful, professionals need to reskill their existing talent — to develop, reskill, and attain critical tech talent. But the question is: How does one start? First and foremost, employees need to understand that it is a proactive engagement and lifelong learning commitment that needs to be made.
Self-assessment
Define your skills at this very moment. It is important to realize what gaps exist. Your weaknesses and strengths will let you focus more on learning opportunities, which seem to be most appropriate for you. SWOT analysis — Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats — would be helpful here.
Set clear objectives
Knowing your starting point and your destination, set some clear, realistic goals for yourself. It might be to learn a language in three months or some other certificate in one year. This will keep you focused and inspired.
Practice it out
The best way to learn is by doing. Engage in projects at work, or personally in open source projects that allow applying new skills in contexts as proximal to real-world scenarios as possible. This leads to the consolidation of learning as a side effect, and a demonstration of initiative towards potential future employers.

Network and collaborate
It isn’t really about networking for new employment; it’s a whole level in itself sharing experience and knowledge with other peers. Network out there in industry meetups, conferences, and seminars, and make friends with other technology professionals. Of course, such collaboration could travel into online forums and communities that afford the opportunity of sharing and earning insights.
Keep pace with changing trends in the industry
Technology keeps changing at a pretty good pace, so one needs to learn new technologies and follow the industry trend. Stay relevant, and be marketable by following tech blogs, subscribing to newsletters, and attending webinars.
Embrace a growth mindset
Be prepared to have a growth mindset — view problems as learning experiences, not as roadblocks. A growth mindset will help you break free from your comfort zone and will gear you towards higher-level projects or mastering more advanced skills.
Document your progress
Keep a record of the things you are learning, as well as your achievements. This not only proves to be valuable in the process of following up on your progress but also in updating your résumé or even when having a discussion on career development.
