“Since childhood, I have had the mind-set of listening to people and socialising with them. And this was the foundation of building my interest in the HR domain,” emphasised Kajal Kumari, who is currently pursuing PGDM with HR specialisation from one of the prestigious B-schools in India, Apeejay School of Management. She further mentioned, “Learning at ASM has been phenomenal, as the institute provided me a footbridge to achieve my goals and aspirations. The amalgamation of all the learnings cannot be defined in words or expressed in ROI, because it is the combination of education, failures, successes and experiences.” And that’s what led Kajal to bag a job offer, with a handsome pay package from Tata Power. Read edited excerpts to know how she cracked it:

What role have you been offered? Did you always aspire to be part of this sector?

With the combined efforts of ASM and especially the CRC team, I have been offered the role of a HR Executive-Trainee in the esteemed organisation, Tata Power. Being a Jamsedpurian, it has always been my dream to become a part of this reputed organisation, ‘Tata’. Today, I am glad to join one of my dream companies – Tata Power.

How did you prepare for the interview?

The preparation of the interview cannot be done in one single day. In fact, it is the blend of all the efforts that one puts in their self-development over the period of time. The weekly “mentoring session” was very much beneficial for the preparation of the interview. The faculty mentors along with the alumni mentors guided us on how to get ready for the corporate world by conducting various activities. Accordingly, the improvement intensity increases and we get ready for the interview process.

How excited are you to start your professional journey?

I am delighted to start my professional journey on the note of thanking the whole ASM members and my family for providing me the opportunity and believing in me. Thank you! Now, I feel pretty much confident to start my journey on the pathway that has been paved on the foundation of all my learnings and experience. Eagerly looking forward to it!

You have been playing an active role in conducting events. That surely must have built new skills. How did that help you during your campus recruitment?

Result is a one-time process, but learning is a continuous process. Following this principle, I have been involved in the various events, whether its emcee, coordinator, volunteer or be a participant. Conducting events has acted as a catalyst in my self-grooming. Each event added a new chapter to my personal development. The involvement in each event has inculcated different competencies in me. No doubt, the journey has always been a roller-coaster ride, but the mind management during these times is the secret of my success.

Tips from your faculty that you always kept in mind?

The tips from the faculty that have helped me in my success journey is “mind management”. Everyone in the world is focused on the “time management” variable which is the partial element of success. The balance of the rationale and the emotional aspect is required in every phase of life, whether it’s education or corporate. “Mind management” helps to prioritise your things, boosts your morale, builds confidence and most importantly helps to stay motivated even in the worst scenarios. Thus, “mind management” is the sustainable tip for all your life.

Where do you see yourself in the coming five years?

In the coming five years of my journey, I see myself at a position where I can utilise my competencies for the enhancement of the organisation as well as for my personal development while keeping mental well-being at the priority for all the people.
