Jalandhar college marks impactful anti-ragging week

With a resolute commitment to fostering a safe and respectful educational environment, the Anti-Ragging Cell of Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA) in Jalandhar conducted a week-long campaign dedicated to eradicating the menace of ragging. This significant initiative unfolded under the collaborative efforts of the World Grants Commission and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

The essence of the Anti-Ragging Week was to instill a deep understanding of the repercussions associated with ragging, emphasising its negative impact on individuals and educational institutions alike. Dr Neerja Dhingra, Principal of ACFA, underscored the gravity of raising students’ awareness about this issue. She highlighted, “The legal framework against ragging has grown stringent, rendering practitioners liable for punishment upon proven guilty.”

Throughout the week, an array of activities were held, aiming to sensitise all students to the ramifications of ragging while stressing the imperative of its prevention. Among the enlightening endeavours, competitions like slogan writing, poster making, essay writing, and logo designing took center stage, imparting vital lessons through creative engagement.

With infectious enthusiasm, students partook in these contests, vying for recognition as they lent their voices against ragging. In the slogan writing category, Jaspreet Kaur secured the first position, closely followed by Zainab Hussain in second place. Jap PahulDeep Kaur and Ritika Sharma clinched the third position, while Katyayani and Simran Kaur received a consolation prize for their commendable efforts.

In the realm of essay writing, Akshat Sharma emerged triumphant, securing the top spot. Pragya secured the second position, whereas Bhavini and Ritika Sharma jointly secured the third position. Rajat, exhibiting notable prowess, was bestowed with a consolation prize. 

The poster making competition witnessed Vikas Kalotra taking the lead, with Abhishek securing the second position and Tegbir Singh securing the third. Harsimran Sidhu and Tamanna Mahajan were awarded consolation prizes for their exceptional contributions. The logo designing contest featured Kanchan clinching the first prize, Abhishek securing the second, and Diya Talwar securing the third. Shivalika Bansal and Tamanna Mahajan were acknowledged with consolation prizes for their noteworthy submissions.

Highlighting the profound impact of the initiative, a documentary shed light on the lasting psychological and physical effects of ragging, emphasising its potential to jeopardise both personal well-being and academic careers. Mr. Vishav Bandhu Verma, Head of the Department of History, facilitated a solemn oath-taking ceremony, where students pledged to steer clear of any involvement in ragging.

Expressing commendation for the resounding success of the Anti-Ragging Week, Dr Dhingra extended gratitude to the dedicated efforts of Dr Seema Sharma, Dean of the Anti-Ragging Cell, and Dr Monika Mogla and Dr Kewal Krishna Nailwal for their commendable contributions to this crucial cause.
