According to the 2023 Global Graduate Outlook Survey conducted by CFA Institute, finance is now considered to have the most promising career prospects by 25% of global respondents, indicating a substantial increase from the previous survey conducted in 2021. The survey, which included 9,437 participants worldwide, with 1,000 from India, focused on individuals aged 18-25 who were pursuing or had recently completed a bachelor’s degree within the past three years.

Indian graduates participating in the study displayed optimism, with 48% expressing confidence in securing a job amidst the current economic climate. Additionally, they exhibited a higher inclination (39%) compared to the global average (31%) towards leveraging social media platforms to enhance their professional presence and improve their job prospects. Notably, the survey also highlighted that over half of the Indian respondents (55%) prioritise a good salary when considering potential employers, surpassing other factors such as training opportunities and a flexible work environment.

In addition to this, the findings revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted Indian graduates to re-evaluate their career paths. Approximately 64% of respondents reported reassessing their desired sectors or career trajectories since the pandemic began. Furthermore, 63% expressed that the pandemic has had a negative impact on their long-term career prospects. Consequently, 72% of participants expressed plans to extend their education to enhance their career prospects significantly.
