According to a report titled ‘Gearing up the Workforce for a Green Economy’ by Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ) and Sattva Consulting, supported by JP Morgan, India has the potential to generate up to 35 million green jobs by 2047. These jobs will span across various sectors, both traditional and emerging, including renewable energy, waste management, electric vehicles, green construction, and sustainable textiles.

The report highlights the expected job growth in different sectors. By 2050, solar energy is projected to create 3.26 million jobs, while wind energy is expected to support 0.18 million jobs by 2030.

Additionally, the bioenergy sector is predicted to generate 0.27 million green jobs by 2030, and the green hydrogen sector is expected to create 0.6 million jobs by the same year.

The term “green jobs,” as defined by the SCGJ, refers to a category of employment that has a direct positive impact on the environment and contributes to overall environmental
well-being. These jobs involve the use or development of renewable energy sources, resource conservation, energy-efficient practices, waste management regulation, and the promotion of sustainable development.
