Having a keen interest in art and design, Muskan Khatri enrolled at the School of Design and Visual Arts, Apeejay Stya University in 2021. Her father, Mr. Sanjay Khatri, an Assistant Manager at Union Bank of India, is very supportive of his daughter’s career choice. In an interview, Mr. Khatri emphasises how the institute is imparting key design skills among its students.

Did you always know Muskan’s interest in studying fashion design?

Muskan loves sketching and she is extremely good at it. Since childhood, she has participated in several sketching or drawing competitions. In class 9, she was also bestowed with the ‘Best Artist of School Award’. So there was no doubt that she wanted to choose a career path that includes sketching and artwork. When she told us that she wanted to pursue fashion designing, we were very happy about it. Muskan is inspired by fashion designer Manish Malhotra and she aspires to meet and work in his team in the future.

Why did you choose the School of Design and Visual Arts, Apeejay Stya University (ASU) for Muskan?

While we were searching universities or institutes that offer courses on fashion designing, this is when we chanced upon the School of Design and Visual Arts at the Apeejay Stya University. We found out that it’s a very well-reputed institution. The campus looked very impressive and so we went ahead and enrolled Muskan there.

Please take us through Muskan’s progress at the university?

During her first semester, Muskan enjoyed the classes on Methods and Materials and Elements of Design. She likes working on new projects as it helps her understand different interesting concepts. Like, during her Methods and Material classes, she learnt how dry pastels can be used for drawing and painting. In addition to this, she is part of the Board of Directors in the Rotaract Club. She holds the position of Director of Club Service.

What is the best thing about the School of Design and Visual Arts?

Muskan likes how all the faculty members make the classes so interactive and engaging. She says Dibyendu Sir is so supportive and helps students at every step. That makes it so easy for them to interact with their teachers, hold discussions on various interesting topics as well as clear out their doubts (if any).  She really wants to get back to the campus and enjoy her graduation days. The campus is full of greenery which makes it so vibrant.
