‘Sneha aims to be a fashion designer one day’

Mrs. B Geetha is a home-maker and the mother of Apeejay Stya University, School of Design and Visual Arts first year student Ms. Sneha SG. Her husband Mr. V Suresh Babu is a technician and supervisor employed at the Rourkela Steel Plant. In a brief interview, Mrs. Geetha elaborates upon her reasons for choosing the School of Design and Visual Arts and her daughter’s dream to be a fashion designer. Edited excerpts:

What made you choose School of Design and Visual Arts, Apeejay Stya University (ASU) over other universities for Sneha’s admission?

It was her teacher in the coaching center here, who told us about the School of Design and Visual Arts at Apeejay Stya University. He told us that it is a very well reputed institution. So, he strongly recommended that we enroll Shreya there. That is the reason behind choosing School of Design and Visual Arts, ASU for Sneha.

Please tell us a bit about Sneha and take us through her progress at the university?

Sneha loves fashion design to the core. She is interested in everything about fashion. It is her world. She aims to be a fashion designer in the future.

Her favourite fashion designer is Kresha Bajaj. She is a big fan of her design Love Story Lehenga, she finds it the best. She loves the way Kresha Bajaj depicts the under-water sea life motif in her designs. It is explored very creatively, I think that inspires Sneha a lot. She also likes Manish Malhotra. His Vadaniya Lehenga and some of his saris are highly admired by Sneha.

 Sneha is yet to work on a fashion show. She has started learning tailoring, embroidery and the different types of stitches used in a dress. She has even tailored some kurtis, palazzos and traditional tops worn with skirts for herself and her elder sister.  

She tells me that since Lehengas are focused on by all designers, there are very limited varieties when it comes to tops, so she would like to experiment on that.

 Apart from fashion, she loves watching movies and travelling. She really liked the movie Padmaavat a lot.

Are the teachers engaging well with Sneha?

Yes, the teachers are teaching and engaging well with the students. But the classes are of a short duration, so I wish for the campus to open soon, so that Sneha can learn more in person from her teachers. That way she will grow more in the field of fashion, with more knowledge and experiences. She speaks very highly of Nidhi ma’am, that she teaches the best.

What is the best thing about the School of Design and Visual Arts, ASU?

Sneha liked the college a lot. Actually, she went to the college during the time of her admission and loved everything about the campus. She liked the environment there.
