Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, in collaboration with the District Election Commission, recently organised a series of initiatives under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign. The aim was to raise awareness among students about their voting rights and responsibilities.

During the event, Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Principal of ACFA, underscored the college’s commitment to holistic education, emphasising the importance of instilling social responsibility in students alongside academic, cultural, and sports development. Recognising the pivotal role of informed and engaged citizens in shaping the nation’s future, the students embarked on nurturing a sense of civic duty.

The campaign kicked off with the establishment of a permanent help desk, led by Dr. Rekha, Nodal Officer, and Dr. Simkee, Dean of the NSS Wing. Students were assisted to understand the process of voter ID card registration and the significance of exercising their right to vote. They were also briefed on the importance of participating in the electoral process and how their votes can influence the outcome of elections, underscoring the notion that every vote counts.

Continuing the momentum, the second day of the campaign focused on educating students about the profound impact of voting on democratic outcomes. Through interactive sessions and informative discussions, students gained insights into the power of their vote in shaping the political landscape and driving social change.

The third day saw students creatively expressing their commitment to democratic participation through the creation of posters with the theme ‘My Vote, My Right.’ These visually compelling messages served as reminders of the inherent value of voting and encouraged fellow students to exercise their franchise.

Concluding the campaign on a high note, the college set up selfie points across the campus on the fourth day, leveraging social media platforms to amplify the message of voter awareness. By encouraging students to capture moments of civic engagement and share them online, the college aimed to foster a culture of active citizenship and inspire broader community participation in the electoral process.

Through these concerted efforts, Apeejay College of Fine Arts succeeded in empowering its students with the knowledge and responsibility necessary to become conscientious and engaged citizens. The voter awareness campaign not only instilled a sense of pride in democratic values but also ignited a passion for contributing to the nation’s welfare as responsible voters.
