Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC), Dwarka recently hosted its annual two-day International ‘We Care Film Festival,’ aiming to break stereotypes surrounding differently-abled individuals and promote their spirit, dedication, and pursuit of a life filled with dignity and independence.

The event witnessed active participation not only from AIMC students but also from numerous students representing various educational institutions, NGOs, media professionals, and experts in the social sector. In collaboration with the globally recognized NGO ‘Brotherhood’ and with the backing of UNESCO and the UN Information Centre, the festival aimed to create a platform for dialogue and understanding.

As a part of the We Care Film Festival, a curated selection of award-winning Indian and international films, such as ‘Fighting in the Wheels,’ ‘Fish & I,’ ‘Respiration,’ and ‘Speechless,’ were screened. These films resonated with the audience, not only for their artistic excellence but also for their poignant portrayal of the multifaceted challenges faced by differently-abled individuals.

Adding a touch of inspiration, specially-abled children from Ashish Foundation presented a captivating fashion show, leaving the audience in awe and earning a well-deserved standing ovation. The festival also featured a photography and painting exhibition centered around the theme of the event, showcasing the creative talents of those challenging societal norms.

Key coordinators for the entire event were postgraduate diploma students specializing in Corporate Communication and Event Management at AIMC, who worked tirelessly to ensure the festival’s success.

The Chief Guest for the first day of the International We Care Film Festival was Mr. R. Shridharan Ramakrishnan, Editor of International TV9. In his address, he called upon society at large and the aspiring journalists at AIMC to embrace the crucial responsibility of integrating differently-abled individuals into the mainstream, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and understanding. The festival succeeded not only in celebrating the artistic achievements of differently-abled individuals but also in fostering a deeper awareness of the challenges they face.
