In recent developments, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced the results for class 12 on May 13, 2024, accessible through the official CBSE website. The data reveals an uptick in the overall pass percentage, which now stands at 87.98%, marking a 0.65% increase from last year’s 87.33%.

This year, 16,33,730 students were registered for the CBSE class 12 exams, with 16,21,224 appearing. Of these, 14,26,420 students managed to pass. Girl students notably outperformed male students, a significant highlight for the CBSE Board. The exams took place across 7,126 centres, involving over 16.21 lakh candidates. Impressively, 91.52% of girl candidates passed, surpassing the boys’ pass rate by 6.40 percentage points.

Meet four such students of Apeejay School, Rama MandiAnanya Sharma (Commerce); Sukhmanjot Kaur Mattu (Science); Simarpreet (Commerce), and Tania Verma (Commerce) – who have shown that discipline coupled with studying consistently is the best medicine when it comes to preparing for the CBSE Board exams.

Speaking about her result, Ananya said: “During my Board exams I got jaundice and that impacted me. I was worried that my final result would not be good since I had not been able to complete my English paper. But thankfully my hard work paid and I got a fantastic result,” Ananya said who scored an aggregate of 96.6 per cent. Her marks subject-wise are: Business Studies: 100; Economics: 97; Accountancy: 95; English: 91, and Painting (optional): 100.

So, what was the secret behind her success? “It’s consistency, attending classes regularly, and being diligent. It is important to follow teachers’ instructions and do whatever they advise. Students need to understand that learning happens in the classroom itself,” shared the future Chartered Accountant.

“My Economics teacher, Accountancy, and Business teacher helped me a lot. They taught us about the paper format, and how to attempt the paper; they provided instructions and advice on how to prepare for the exam. They also provided a lot of resource books to go through before exams,” she said.

And how to attempt the question paper. “Attempt all the questions in sequence and keep a good 10 minutes for revision at the end. Remember, just because exams are lengthy, you should not panic, you should keep a composed strategy from the very beginning and give your 100 per cent, she added and said that all through her parents were pillars of strength for her.

“My parents were always trying to calm me down; falling ill was very disheartening. They assured me that it was not about what I was studying last minute but the hard work done the entire year. They would also reassure me that if I don’t score well, it is not a big deal,” Ananya said.

Sukhmanjot is thrilled about her results! “I achieved an overall percentage of 96.4 per cent with scores of 100 in Painting, 96 in English, 95 in Biology, 93 in Physics, and 98 in Chemistry. For my Board preparations, I was disciplined and consistent. Rather than sticking to a rigid timetable, I made a list of tasks I needed to complete daily,” she shared and added that taking breaks is also vital.

“It’s important to rejuvenate and keep the mind fresh. The teachers also played a significant role in my success. Whenever I have doubts, I go to them and they are always supportive. They also provided advice on managing stress, like meditating and engaging in physical activities. My parents have been incredibly supportive, encouraging me to focus on learning rather than just marks as well,” Sukhmanjot shared, who aspires to be a doctor and wants to specialise either in cardiology or plastic surgery.

Simarpreet, whoplans to pursue a combined business and law degree, shared that her parents boosted her confidence, which helped alleviate stress. “My advice to future exam takers is not to panic, ensure adequate sleep, and focus on understanding concepts rather than just memorising text,” the achiever advised who scored an aggregate of 95.4 per cent with 100 in Painting, 97 in Business Studies, 95 in Economics, 95 in Accountancy, and 91 in English.

“My study strategy involved attending school and extra classes, especially for subjects like Accountancy which I found challenging. I practiced a lot and focused on productivity during my study hours. Discipline was key; I minimised distractions by setting aside my phone while studying. Our teachers were immensely supportive and guiding throughout the year,” Simarpreet said.

Tania, on the other hand, plans to pursue BCom (H). The achiever who scored an aggregate of 94.6 per cent shared that regular studies are crucial for success. “Discipline and focus are a must. I scored 97 in Accountancy, 97 in Business Studies, 95 in Economics, 100 in Physical Education, and 85 in English. It’s important to devote specific attention to each subject,” she opined and added that all this enables consistent study for about four to five hours a day.

“But I couldn’t have managed this without the help and guidance of the teachers. “They were very supportive, making topics easier to understand which helped significantly. My parents also played a huge role in my success. They were there to calm me whenever I would get stressed; they were supportive regardless of the outcome and never pressured me for scores,” Tania said in conclusion.
