Beginning a management programme is much more than attending classes and completing assignments—it is the start of a transformative journey of personal and professional growth. Recognising that students thrive when they receive the right guidance and support, Apeejay School of Management (ASM), Dwarka, organised a series of orientation sessions to familiarise the newly inducted PGDM students with the institute’s comprehensive mentoring ecosystem, internship framework, capstone projects, and experiential learning initiatives. The sessions highlighted how mentorship plays a pivotal role in helping students navigate academic challenges, make informed career choices, and develop into confident future leaders.

The orientation on the Mentoring Programme was conducted by Dr. Shweta Jha and Dr. Chhaya Wadhwa, who explained the significance of mentoring throughout the two-year MBA journey. They informed students that mentoring is a non-credit course conducted regularly to provide continuous guidance, counselling, and support for both academic and personal development.

The speakers explained that faculty mentors would help students overcome challenges, identify their strengths, set career goals, and make informed decisions throughout the programme. They also highlighted the mentor’s role in strengthening industry interface, expanding professional networks, and preparing students for future career opportunities. Students were encouraged to actively participate in mentoring sessions and make full use of the valuable guidance offered by their mentors.

The orientation also included a detailed session on the Summer Internship Programme, led by Dr. Chhaya Wadhwa. She familiarised students with the internship timeline, objectives, and academic requirements while emphasising that internships provide an invaluable opportunity to translate classroom learning into practical business experience.

Dr. Wadhwa explained that each student would be guided by an industry mentor at the organisation while simultaneously receiving continuous academic support from an institute mentor. Students were advised to maintain regular communication with both mentors, provide periodic updates on their progress, and document their experiences in a comprehensive internship report. The internship concludes with a faculty evaluation through a formal presentation, where students are assessed on their learning outcomes, professional experiences, and overall performance. She encouraged students to approach the internship as an important milestone in their professional development.

An informative session on the Capstone Project was conducted by Dr. Pragya Arya, who described it as one of the most significant academic components of the final semester. She explained that the project enables students to integrate the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the programme by addressing real-world business challenges.

Students were informed that they could undertake the Capstone Project within the organisation where they secure placements, work on an academic research problem under faculty supervision, or pursue an entrepreneurship-based project by developing innovative business solutions. Dr. Arya emphasised that the Capstone Project nurtures critical thinking, research capabilities, innovation, and problem-solving skills while preparing students for successful careers.

Adding an element of fun and creativity to the orientation programme, Dr. Vernika Agarwal and Prof. Saumya Satija organised a lively No Bag Day activity. Students were challenged to replace conventional backpacks with imaginative alternatives for carrying their stationery, notebooks, lunch, and water bottles. Their creativity was on full display as they arrived carrying their belongings in stools, scarves, flowerpots, umbrellas, baskets, and several other unconventional items.

The engaging activity promoted innovation, resourcefulness, and out-of-the-box thinking while fostering interaction, collaboration, and team spirit among the students. It also provided a refreshing break from routine academic sessions and created a vibrant, welcoming campus atmosphere.

The orientation programme successfully introduced students to the rich learning ecosystem at Apeejay School of Management, where personalised mentoring, experiential learning, industry engagement, and creative thinking come together to shape responsible, confident, and future-ready management professionals.
