Highlighting the role of young people in addressing civic challenges, Aarish Saini, a student of Apeejay School, Model Town, Jalandhar, interacted with Shivansh Asthana, IAS, Chief Minister Field Officer (CMFO), Jalandhar. He discusses concerns related to road safety and unsafe driving by e-rickshaw drivers.
During the interaction, Aarish presented ideas aimed at addressing rash and unsafe driving, focusing on practical solutions to improve road safety. Rather than relying solely on restrictions, his suggestions emphasised exploring measures that could encourage safer driving practices and help make roads safer for commuters.
The discussion provided an opportunity for the student to present his perspective on an issue that affects everyday road users. E-rickshaws are a familiar feature of urban transport, making road discipline and responsible driving important considerations for the safety of passengers, pedestrians and other motorists.
IAS officer Shivansh Asthana appreciated Aarish’s suggestions and noted key points for further discussion and exploration of their practical implementation. The interaction marked an opportunity for a student-led idea to reach an administrative officer and enter a broader conversation about addressing road-safety concerns.
The meeting highlighted the importance of considering ideas from young citizens when discussing public issues. It also demonstrated how students can engage with civic administration beyond the classroom and contribute to conversations around their communities.
Apeejay School, Model Town, has highlighted the interaction as an example of student initiative and meaningful engagement with real-world challenges. The school emphasised that constructive ideas, when shared with the appropriate authorities, can open avenues for further discussion and possible action.
