World Book Day, celebrated every year, is a global event dedicated to promote the love for reading and advocating for literacy. At Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg in Jalandhar, this worldwide celebration was joyously observed, bringing together students from classes VI-VIII. Young minds showcased a delightful display of literary enthusiasm.

The significance of this day lies in honouring the anniversaries of the deaths of two influential literary figures: William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes. Both Shakespeare, the renowned English playwright, and Cervantes, the celebrated Spanish writer, passed away on this date in 1616, according to the Gregorian calendar. Their contributions to literature and their lasting impact on storytelling are commemorated on World Book Day.

The day at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg commenced with students eagerly bringing in their favourite books from various genres, symbolising the essence of the celebration. The primary aim was to instil the habit of reading for pleasure among young minds, fostering a lifelong appreciation for literature. Engaging activities such as group reading sessions and an interactive open quiz allowed students to immerse themselves in the captivating world of storytelling, thereby expanding their imagination and vocabulary.

A special assembly held to commemorate the occasion provided a platform for students to showcase their creativity through thought-provoking talks, expressive poetry, and captivating monologues, paying tribute to the timeless works of Shakespeare. Principal Ms. Sangeeta Nistandra delivered an inspiring address, emphasising the profound significance of books in shaping one’s intellect and character.
