Responding to the humanitarian challenges faced by communities affected by floods in Nepal and Assam, Apeejay Institute of Design (AID) undertook a food and essentials donation initiative in collaboration with Goonj, New Delhi, a non-profit organisation engaged in disaster response and community development. The initiative brought together students, faculty and staff in a collective effort to support individuals and families in need of immediate assistance.
As part of the Community Relief Initiative, members of the AID community contributed essential food items and other necessities for distribution among flood-affected communities. The collection included vital supplies such as blankets and sanitary pads, along with other essential commodities. Through their contributions, students, faculty members and staff demonstrated that even individual efforts, when brought together, can create meaningful support for communities facing difficult circumstances.
The collected items were formally handed over to representatives of Goonj on September 19, 2026. The collaboration enabled the donated supplies to be channelled towards people and families requiring assistance, while supporting Goonj’s ongoing efforts in disaster response and community support.
The initiative went beyond the act of donating essential commodities. It provided members of the institute with an opportunity to understand the importance of empathy, civic responsibility and meaningful social action. By actively participating in a relief effort, the AID community reinforced the idea that educational institutions have an important role to play in responding to pressing humanitarian concerns.
The initiative also reflected AID’s continued commitment to fostering a culture of responsible citizenship and community engagement. As a regular and long-term commitment under its Community Relief Initiative, the institute seeks to encourage its academic community to contribute towards addressing social and humanitarian needs. Such efforts help students recognise the value of collective responsibility while encouraging them to become more sensitive and responsive members of society.
The institute expressed its sincere appreciation to all the students, faculty members and staff whose participation contributed to the successful implementation of the initiative. Their collective support transformed the donation drive into a meaningful expression of solidarity with communities affected by the floods.
AID also acknowledged Goonj for its continued efforts in facilitating disaster relief and community support. Through such collaborations, the institute aims to strengthen the connection between education and social responsibility, encouraging its students and wider academic community to respond with empathy and action when communities face adversity.
The food and essentials donation initiative thus served as a meaningful reminder that compassion becomes most powerful when translated into action. By joining hands with Goonj, AID reaffirmed its commitment to community welfare and its long-term endeavour to nurture socially conscious, empathetic and responsible citizens.
